Library Services for Distance Students

This guide is intended to help students taking online courses at UMB to use services and access resources at the Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL) from a distance.

  Books and E-Books

Even if you can't visit the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, there are other ways to obtain books.  Search our e-book collection and access them online, or search the collection at your local academic and public libraries.

Search for Journal Articles

The library's discipline and subject guides will lead you to databases that will enable you to search the journal literature.  The guides focus on both general and specific topics.

Get a Copy of a Journal Articles

Many articles can be linked to directly from the library's subscription databases.  No direct link? Look for the gold "Find It" button in the database.  Find It button 

  • Search OneSearch on the library homepage for the article title.  Then click on the Full Text Finder or the "Find It" button.
  • Journal List 
    To find out if the library owns a journal in electronic format search the Journal A-Z list by entering the journal title.  
  • Request Articles  
    Request articles that the HS/HSL does not own or that are only available in print, by using our Interlibrary Loan service.
