NIH Public Access Policy: Submission Methods

The instructions on this page provide steps to ensure compliance with the NIH Public Access Policy.

Submission Methods

There are four ways to submit articles to PubMed Central in order to be compliant with the Public Access Policy.

Method A
Journals deposit final published articles to PubMed Central no later than 12 months after publication without author involvement.
Method B
Authors make arrangements with the publisher to deposit the article into PubMed Central. This often requires a fee.
Method C
Authors deposit final peer-reviewed manuscript into PubMed Central via the NIH Manuscript Submission System.
Method D
Publishers deposit the final peer-reviewed manuscript to the NIH Manuscript Submission System, and authors complete all remaining steps.
