ORCID

What is ORCID?

ORCID is an identification tool that distinguishes scholars from one another (regardless of name variants). Unlike other research IDs, your ORCID ID is universal. It is not tied to any institution or database and it can follow you wherever your research takes you.  ORCID ensures that your work is recognized by connecting you to your professional and scholarly activities.  You can keep your ORCID with you throughout your career, even when you graduate or change jobs. It eliminates scholars’ need to enter the same data and information in different systems.

ORCID Week at UMB!

In honor of National Orchid Day on April 16, the Health Sciences & Human Services Library is encouraging current and future researchers to distinguish themselves with a very different kind of ORCID.  To register for an ORCID iD, look for our pop-up table at your school during the week of April 16, or register yourself at https://orcid.org/.    When you visit our table, submit your ORCID to participate in a drawing for $25.00 Amazon gift cards

Also remember to add UMB as your employer or educational institution in your ORCID profile!

Look for our pop-up table in these locations to learn more about ORCID and register:

School of Dentistry – Monday, April 16, 12:00 – 2:00  (1st floor)
School of Social Work – Tuesday, April 17, 12:00 – 2:00  (3rd floor)
School of Medicine – Wednesday, April 18, 12:00 – 2:00  (HSF1 near the 2nd floor elevators)
School of Nursing – Thursday, April 19, 12:00 – 2:00  (1st floor lobby)
School of Pharmacy – Friday, April 20, 10:30 – 12:30  (Pharmacy Hall atrium)

Why do you need an ORCID ID?

Your ORCID:

  • Ensures that your research contributions are attributed to you
  • Saves you time – enter information once, and then reuse
  • Increases discoverability of your publications and research outputs
  • Prevents mistaken identity
  • Improves your ability to control and managing your research outputs
  • More and more systems you already use are connected with ORCID, including journal manuscript submission and grant application systems
  • It’s free and simple to use
