Health disparities are preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence or the opportunities to achieve optimal health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations. In this module, students are introduced to the concepts of health inequity related to poverty, environmental threats, lack of access to health care and behavioral factors. By being able to recognize health disparities, students are better able to advocate for improved health for themselves and for their community.
